Welcome to Above Treeline

On high exposed ridgelines, at the mercy of weather and time, I find my fullest soul. It is this world above the treeline, where the hardiest of species have evolved to thrive in the harshest of mountain environments, that I return to for respite- time and time again.
There is a welcoming emptiness in the alpine that reminds us of our immeasurability in the scale of the planet. This is a place that was not made for humans; the environment itself is against our kind being here. Yet, we are drawn back, repeatedly, as part of an inexplicable human desire.
Humans have been traveling in the high alpine for thousands of years. It’s no wonder it is such an obsession: we have evolved to love these places. We have an innate yearn for the untouchable, to journey and adventure to find ourselves in the wild.
The land above the treeline is special to me, and to humankind alike. We all dream for summits, and the lessons that come when we visit them. I've been learning lots of lessons of the alpine lately, some without even reaching the peak... but rather, in the memories of those sojourns. Long after the soreness has been run out of my legs I find myself in the studio, typing away some profound words I think to be important. My collection of tiny little souvenirs.
Words and language are life - after all, it's the only way to travel from the bottoms of valleys to the summits of mountains without a single footstep, only penstroke. I guess thats what makes it magic.
I hope I can share some journeys, realizations, and memories with you here...if nothing else, maybe just a good story.
Cheers,
Donita
